the Goddess and the Birds
From the Neolithic onwards, we find goddesses and magical female figures that are associated with birds. They may fully take the form of birds, or shape-shift into birds for specific reasons; they may be depicted with bird’s wings, heads, feathers, feet. They may be supernatural messengers in natural form. Who are they, and do they herald? They arise from many cultures around the world, their origins in shamanistic cosmogonies. We’ll find them in the hot lands and the ice and the waters. In Celtic Europe, pre-Celtic Britain, Ancient Egyptian, Africa, in Greek and Slavic worlds, Sumerian, Roman, the Americas, Siberia and the Vinca Culture of South Eastern Europe, for instance. What was their role? What are their stories, and can they be relevant to us today, in both our magical practice and our ‘everyday’ lives?
Join us for a day exploring these enigmatic aspects of the goddesses and with illustrated talks, discussion, crafting, chanting and ceremony, in our friendly environment.
